If you are reading this blog you have probably at least started geocaching or have an interest in geocaching. You may even be a much more experienced geocacher than us that just likes reading about geocaching or picking up new ideas.
We are going to add quick blurbs under this heading for simple ideas that have made the game more fun for us. We are not experts and often try new ideas that, well, fail miserably. Regardless of how well they work out they still end up making it a more fun experience for our team (our family). We hope you find something among these ideas that is helpful.
Here we go…
Personalize your email with your team name.
A simple way to begin building your team brand is to get a personalized email with your team name. There are many reasons to do this – some tangible and some a little less so. One of the main reasons to have a team email is to separate the many, many, many emails you will eventually get from your geocaching related activities. If you are new to geocaching you may think this is an exaggeration. If you have been geocaching for a while you know that your inbox can fill up with pocket queries, new geocache notifications, communications with other cachers, finds and DNFs on your caches… It goes on and on but you get the point. Its just much neater to have all of the emails about your geocaching hobby separate from the emails about bills, and work, and great aunt Bessie’s new cat.
Another great reason is just because its fun to see your team brand on your emails and correspondance. When we first started we were simply using my real name. We quickly decided that was not a good idea. We wanted a name that was fun and made it feel like the game belonged to all of us. We adopted the team name Memfis Mafia. Long story short – we are originally from Memphis and we thought it sounded cool. (how to change/reset your team name)
Once we had our team name we decided on a personalized email. There are many services available that are free and easy to set up. We settled on Gmail because it is easy to use, free, and comes with some other fun services like Google Voice, Google Plus, and YouTube that we will discuss later. For now, doesn’t it look better and more fun to have MemfisMafia@gmail.com than Fred_R.Jones45763@aol.com?
We hope you find this little tip interesting and/or helpful. Get out and have fun.
