Geocaching Ideas – building your team image (part two)

wow, this is boring
wow, this is boring

This is the default for your geocaching profile page. Yes, this is ridiculously boring – but it doesn’t have to be. With just a few minutes of work, you can add some photos, your logo, and a little bit more of your personality. It is not necessary to have a working knowledge of HTML or a background in web design to spice up your page. We will walk through a couple of steps that you can tweak for your page.

First, I hope you have come up with a team logo. If not, now is a good time. For us, we decided we wanted to show a little of our personality so we sketched out a simple drawing of our family GeoRide (our Jeep) and wrote our team name under it. I emailed my younger brother and had him put together our logo in photoshop. Was this necessary? Of course not. Your logo can be a simple sketch, a photo you steal off of the internet, or a favorite pic you snap with your phone. Whatever you decide upon, its much better than the stock photo of Signal. Now you have a logo but let’s take it a step further. Let’s add some details about your team. To do this click on the link Edit Your Profile. This brings you to an empty box where you can do anything from type a few lines to getting deep into some fancy html. For this example I’m going to type in this:

We are a family that likes getting outdoors. We like to geocache, munzee, off road, hike, and whatever else we can find that’s fun. We also blog about our (mis)adventures on our family blog at MemfisMafia.com

Now hit submit and…

getting better...
getting better…

Now you have a logo and a little bit about you (your team). We could stop there…nah! Let’s add a little more fun. Let’s add some pics and have fun with the font. If you already know some basic html – go for it – get crazy. If not, here are some simple tricks.

The easiest way to add a photo is to substitute its address and paste this line into the same box we just used. It will look like this:

<img src=”https://yourphoto.jpg”>

Try it. If you have that working you just need to substitute for whatever photo you want. Add as many pics as you want.

Next let’s change the text. You can keep the simple text if you want or change it to something like this:

We are a family that likes getting outdoors. We like to geocache, munzee, off road, hike, and whatever else we can find that’s fun. We also blog about our (mis)adventures on our family blog at MemfisMafia.com

We liked this one and it is simply something we found with a google search. Try for yourself and see what you can do. Google html text font. You will get some examples. Plug in what you want. Have fun with it.
